Half Marathon

Yesterday Kirk ran his first half marathon. He ran an xterra race which means it was trail running and very difficult. He has been training with one of his friends in our ward every Saturday morning. I am so proud of him for finishing because as he put it "there was a hill so steep that even I wouldn't climb." It was so steep that he had to run switch backs up it. His poor body ran out of energy after the hill and he was grasping at nothing for a couple miles but he did and after the race he admitted he would do it again. He also took third in his age division, awesome! He is the best!

A lot of sweat, a little blood, and one happy man!
The race map and graph of the elevation change.

So proud of Daddy. As he was running in Kirsten was cheering and clapping "go daddy, run!"
After the race we took Kirk out to lunch to one of our favorite restaurants to celebrate.

Who doesn't love free ice cream!

That just amazes me, seeing as how I run 2 miles and think I'm going to die.

  3. That's so awesome! Congrats Kirk! It always makes you feel so good and accomplished when it's done, but yeah during the race...not so much. Looks like a lot of fun and we can't wait to hear about the full marathon!

  5. Um. I can do like a 25 minute mile. And I feel like I'm going to pass out forever after. So... this is pretty much the most amazing feat of humanity (okay, maybe just the most amazing feat in the history of the brinkerhoffs, but still...) Congrats Kirk!
